I have walked through here for years (it is the entrance hall of a friends 15th Century home in Venice) and I have always wanted to paint it, so finally in September I did. The contrast between the colours of the sunlit grand canal and the dark room were difficult to capture and my eyes had to keep readjusting to the gloom after focusing on the canal. My favourite bit to capture must have been the lantern and the spouts of light coming through it!
A little painting of one of my favourite canals which has been painted by some of the greats of the past including Seago and Sargent. I love the fruit and Vegetable boat on this canal!
Painted in August, I was grateful to find some shade where I set up my easel. The dappled light on the trees and buildings made for a wonderful effect and I enjoyed using playful colours to express the heat of the day.
Parrot Tulips with studies of the Wetterhorn in the studio
Painted in my studio these tulips were a beautiful array of colours and I enjoyed the composition with my mountain landscapes that were resting on the dresser.
This painting will be exhibiting with the Portland Gallery from the 7th to the 18th December at their Winter Exhibition. Please contact sophie@portlandgallery.com for more information
