Daisy Sims Hilditch

Solo exhibition “La Grande Bellezza del Paessagio”

06/12/23 - 08/12/23

Here is a considered selection of oil paintings from the brush of Daisy Sims Hilditch that bring you in from the cold and which deliver a feast of colour and palette harmony, a happy counterpoint to our long winter nights.

Daisy has spent the summer roaming around Europe finding inspiration in her favourite landscapes of Italy and Switzerland. Being primarily a plein air artist Daisy is deeply absorbed in the effects of light and how the play of shimmering water and scudding clouds create atmosphere.

One senses in this exhibition a new found lyricism in her works, not only do they seem to say more but they say it in a more colourful and harmonious way. There is an added confidence in the way she handles colour, evident in the burnished terracottas and plangent greens of a Lake Como villa, the impressive skies of Norfolk and the deep blue seas off Cornwall, more of the artist’s favourite haunts. The eye is led around the canvas not only by skilful composition but also by Daisy’s exuberant and judicious employment of colour.

There is an obvious joy about her paintings and one perceives a new expansiveness, a deeper understanding of her art, that adds a sophistication to her development as a painter of the great outdoors, of nature unfiltered. If one senses an influence then the crispness and boldness of the genius artist Laura Knight comes to mind, but Daisy is forging her own way and these new paintings present a wonderful showcase to her burgeoning career. “Rhod McEwan”
